A florist lifting pink cosmos from a zinc bucket in the garden

Late dahlias, cosmos, rosehips and the first chrysanthemums. October is the richest month in the garden.

October is when the garden gives everything it has left. The dahlias are at their biggest, the cosmos is still flowering, and the hedgerows are full of rosehips and turning leaves.

What we’re cutting

Café au lait and Cornel dahlias, white and chocolate cosmos, scabiosa, the last hydrangeas turning antique green, and spidery bronze chrysanthemums.

What we’re foraging

Rosehips, old man’s beard, copper beech and a few branches of crab apple from a friend’s orchard.

Come by the shop on a Saturday morning: the bucket by the door is usually full of whatever we cut that day.
